Party like it's 1776!

We started Independence Day celebrations early on Sunday with a patriotic party! I had such a fun time decorating with American antiques, I had even more fun hunting for the antiques all around Virginia. We had an all-American feast with mini apple pies, Virginia’s finest wines, watermelon, and more!

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, American Literature, and brass eagle.

Collecting antique books has become almost like a sport to me. I love to search and search and find special and unique books with meaning. Finding a 1948 copy of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was extra special—it brought a piece of Missouri and American history to the decor.

The American Literature textbook is awesome. Property of the State of Texas, it sold for $1.53 in 1941. There is writing all over the book—names, pictures, notes, love notes—right after the statement “Pupils must not write on any page of this textbook.”

The Pony Express and Scrabble.

This book is beautiful. The illustrations in this book, published in 1950 are gorgeous as it tells the story of The Pony Express.

For a fun piece, I rummaged through a scrabble set at at antique store until I found what I wanted, then glued it to the board.

American Heritage.

This is by far one of the neatest books I’ve ever seen. It is beautiful, interesting, tattered, and broken. Kind of like America.

Virginia wines.

Barboursville Vineyards, Virginia’s first winery built on the grounds of Virginia’s 19th Governor. The home on the estate is based on the architectural design of the Governor’s friend, Thomas Jefferson.

The Williamsburg Winery James River White, American Sauvignon Blanc. Located in the historic triangle of Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown, The Williamsburg Winery provides educational tours about the history of wine-making in Virginia.

Of course we had to have a little Trump Blanc de Blanc. (:
